Mathematics and Computer Science Courses:
To obtain PA Secondary Certification, students must take a course in the History of Mathematics, in Geometry and in Probability and Statistics. Thus, it is recommended that students take at least some of the following as some of the 5 required MAT electives:
The PA Secondary Certification requirements may also be met by taking (using the new course numbers): With permission of the Department Chair and the Program Director, students may take one or more of these three MED courses as an undergraduate and use the credits to satisfy the requirements for MAT electives for the BS in Mathematics degree. If students have more than the required 40 courses for the BS degree, students may take these MED courses as an undergraduate and use the credits to satisfy the requirements for the MS in Mathematics Education degree. Or students may take these courses during their 5th year and use them to satisfy the requirements of the MS degree. Education Courses (to be taken during the undergraduate years):
It is possible to take one or both of the last two courses during the summer and/or fall of the 5th year as SPE 4805 and EDU 4105 and use the credits toward the MS requirements. Mathematics Education Courses (to be taken during the 5th year):
With permission of the Department Chair and the Program director, students may take MED courses as an undergraduate and use the credits to satisfy general elective requirements for the BS in Mathematics degree. (MED courses do not satisfy MAT requirements except as noted above.) If students have more than the required 40 courses for the BS degree, students may take the MED courses as an undergraduate and use the credits to satisfy the requirements for the MS in Mathematics Education degree. The MS in Secondary Mathematics Education requires a minimum of 30 graduate credits beyond the BS degree requirements. Students receiving the MS in Secondary Mathematics Education degree are required to take a minimum of four MED courses, which must be approved by the Program Director. |
